Causes of Cystic Acne

Cystic acne is a severe form of the acne vulgaris or just common acne and can be worrying because the reason of its occurrence is unknown. It may run in the family or if you are going through adolescence, or taking birth control pills, the hormonal changes can lead to acne. There are, however, preventable kinds of acne and these are caused by stress, the use of harsh face washes or cleansers, oily and greasy skin care products, the side effects of certain kinds of medication, an unhealthy diet and squeezing already existing pimples. It is extremely tempting to squeeze a pimple out, but this is inadvisable as you may hurt yourself, and cause the infection to spread to the surrounding areas. This can make your condition more painful and increase the recovery time needed in order to get rid of this condition.

Home Remedies and Tips for Treating Cystic Acne

It is essential to consult a dermatologist if your acne is severe, as she or he might be able to pinpoint a possible cause. You might be put on a course of antibiotic treatment if your condition is severe. In the meantime you may try out a few remedies at home.

  • Apple cider vinegar is a popular remedy and is known to stabilize the pH balance of your skin.
  • You can make a paste of baking soda, clean water and a little sea salt, and apply it to the affected areas. This will leech out the excess oil and cure the infection to some extent as well.
  • Aloe Vera gel can be applied directly to the spots and is known to heal them.
  • Make a paste of margosa leaves and turmeric, and apply onto the inflamed areas. Wash off in 15-20 minutes with cool clear water. The antibacterial properties of both these products will clear up the acne and fight the infection as well.
  • A paste made of mango pulp, the juice of a lemon and water can be applied onto your face and washed off in half an hour.

Other things you need to keep in mind include washing your face twice a day using a mild oil free cleanser. Use ground nut oil to which a few drops of lime juice have been added onto your face, and wash off with the cleanser for glowing healthy skin. If you are a woman, do make sure to wash off your make up before you go to bed and then apply moisturizer on your skin. Avoid junk food as much as possible and add fruits, vegetables and at least 5-6 litres of water to your daily diet.
