Heat bumps are a condition that affect the area of the forehead but can occur on any part of the body. These occur as a result of a mild inflammation and blockage of the sweat glands of the skin in the area that causes the appearance of bumps. This is not a serious condition and only requires that you moderate the temperatures that your body is subject to and also keep your pores clear and open.
Heat bumps on the face occur because of the immature development of the sweat glands in a part of the skin. Generally, this condition occurs at the forehead and is manifest with an inflamed swelling that looks like bumps. Rarely does this condition extend further beyond to other areas of the face, as the sweat glands are usually more developed in these areas. With immature sweat glands, the process of perspiration is hampered. With regular sweat glands, a solution of water and salt as well as some skin secretions are diffused from the pores to the surface of the skin for evaporation. As you know, this is a process that occurs when the body heats up beyond a certain temperature. In immature sweat glands and pores, this diffusing of sweat to the surface of the skin is not efficient and the salt within the sweat ends up crystallizing within the pores itself. This can then cause a further blockage with bacteria and dirt accumulating to form a plug. Once bacteria are trapped in the pore, you can end up with an inflammation of the zone.
How to Treat Heat Bumps
The best way to treat heat bumps that occur on the face is to apply an ice cube and run it over the area for a few minutes. This will immediately quell the inflammation and reduce any possible sweat accumulating in the area. However, this is not a complete treatment, and is only the act of treating the outward symptom. What you need to do is keep your pores clean and free of bacteria. This is best done by use an acne treatment face wash like salicylic acid. This substance has the ability to break down skin protein and remove dead skin cells. Wash your face with salicylic acid every time that you have to wash your face and you will start to see a marked improvement from the very first use. Another important treatment to perform is to start keeping your skin free of bacteria. This can be done by applying some tea tree oil to your face or by also washing your face with a tea tree oil based soap.
