Clear Up Acne Naturally
Acne refers to inflammation of the skin in the form of pimples that occur on the face, back and chest. It is the most common type of skin condition and can develop at any age. However, adolescence is the time during which acne may become aggravated. This is on account of the hormonal changes that take place during puberty. The skin is naturally moisturized by the production of sebum or oil by the body’s sebaceous glands. The oil reaches the surface of the skin through the pores or hair follicles. Certain condition such as puberty may cause the oil glands to secrete increased amounts of oil. The excess oil begins to accumulate in the pores along with the dead cells of the skin that are shed from the lining of the pores. This forms a blockage in the pores in the form of a plug, which may show through the skin as a whitehead. When the top of the plug becomes exposed, it becomes dark and is referred to as a blackhead. If the plug becomes infected due to germs and bacteria, it results in inflammation and causes a pimple. If the debris within the plugs and pimples is released, it spreads to the surrounding areas of the skin, causing an outbreak of acne.
